For our second partnership in rescuing Filipino orphans, in 2021 POF reached out to Pastor Jeremy Ferguson of New Life Baptist Church in Mexico, Pampanga. He and the church he pastors had started the Philippine Baptist Orphanage (PBO) in 2017 with just three incredible kids. Their orphanage has grown into a haven for over 140 children today that ministers not only to orphans, but also to abused and abandoned children.
In spite of their dire circumstances, Philippine Baptist Orphanage firmly believe that each child brought to them is born with a unique purpose. Hence, their mission is to nurture and empower these children to realize their full potential.
Their motto? “Food in their tummies, and Christ in their hearts.” Yes, they make sure that each child receives freshly prepared, nutritious meals everyday. But that is just the beginning. PBO’s ministry is all about ensuring that these kids thrive, achieve amazing things, and shine like the stars they are.
And that’s not all – the orphanage believes in nourishing their spirits. From engaging church activities to meaningful Bible studies, every one is fully invested in fostering their spiritual growth. Moreover, education is also major focus. Kids aged five and up go to local schools or colleges, and the primary care givers are right there monitoring and cheering them on every step of the way.
They are also free to safely run, play, and interact with each other within the orphanage property with its full fencing, dedicated security personnel, caring house parents, and supportive social workers–all of whom live within the property. Visitors are thoroughly screened before they are allowed inside the orphanage.
But the most amazing aspect of the Philippines Baptist Orphanage is that their financial needs are met by faith as they trust the Lord and humbly ask Him to provide for them without any of their staff conducting fundraisers. It has always been this way since day one. The Lord has also led the right people to them–all the volunteers, staff, and donors.
As an old African proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child…”
