A Few Tidbits About the Philippines

02 Apr, 2023

The Philippines is a beautiful Southeast Asian country composed of 7,641 islands with a population of over 110 million as of 2021. It is the 13th most populous country in the world and the second most populous in Southeast Asia after Indonesia.

The population of the Philippines is incredibly diverse, with over 100 different ethnic groups, each with their own unique culture and language. The majority of the population is made up of Filipinos, who are descendants of various indigenous groups, as well as of Spanish and American colonialists.

The largest city in the Philippines is Manila, the capital, with a population of over 12 million people. Other major cities include Quezon City, Caloocan, and Davao City, each with a population of over 1 million.

The population of the Philippines has been steadily growing over the years, with an average annual growth rate of 1.7%. The country’s high fertility rate, coupled with the decreasing mortality rate, has contributed to its population growth. The average life expectancy in the Philippines is 71 years.

Despite its growing population, the Philippines faces several challenges in terms of providing basic services to its citizens, including education, healthcare, and housing. The government has been working to address these issues by implementing policies and programs aimed at improving access to these services.

The Philippines is also known for its overseas workers or “OFWs,” who number in the millions and work in various countries around the world. These workers are often employed in low-wage jobs and send remittances back to their families in the Philippines, contributing significantly to the country’s economy

The population of the Philippines is diverse and continues to grow steadily. While the country faces several challenges in terms of providing basic services to its citizens, the government is working to address these issues. The Philippines’ overseas workers also play a significant role in its economy. Overall, the Philippines is a vibrant and dynamic country with a rich culture and history.

We are proud to work in the Philippines on behalf of the countries most vulnerable population – its orphans.  And we want to thank you for being a part of the POF Family.  If you feel called to help us, you can make a life-changing donation by clicking the button below.  Maraming Salamat Po!
